03

What is the difference between a midwife and a doula?

A midwife provides medical care and monitors the health of the birthing person and baby. A doula offers non-medical support like comfort measures, education, and emotional encouragement.

04

Are doulas covered by insurance?

We accept certain Medi-Cal groups. Unfortunately, we do not accept any other insurance. However, some insurance plans or Health Savings Accounts (HSAs/FSAs) may reimburse doula services. Check with your provider, and we can offer an invoice or receipt for submission.

04

Do doulas replace partners or medical staff?

Not at all. Doulas complement your birth team — enhancing your experience, not replacing anyone. We support partners too, helping them feel more confident and connected.

05

When should I hire a doula?

The earlier, the better! Many families book doulas in the second trimester, especially for birth services. Postpartum doulas can be booked closer to your due date, but availability can fill up fast.

06

Do you support all types of births?

Most, yes! We support most birthing choices, including:

  • Hospital births

  • Birth center births

  • Home births

  • VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean)

  • Planned cesareans

  • Medicated or unmedicated births

Unfortunately, we do not have coverage for free-wild births which means a birth without a doctor or midwife.

07

What happens if you’re unavailable when I go into labor?

I work with a backup doula whom you can meet during our prenatal visits, just in case. You’ll never be without support.
